Reset! Magazine In English
Hello Reset Magazine readers,
We are welcoming autumn these days. Although I personally like sunny days, autumn means festivals, new films, concerts and gallery and store openings. You may enjoy the recent October Film Festival or watch Dagur Kári’s latest film, The Good Heart, and have a lovely dinner at Beeves Butcher & Steakhouse. Another suggestion is to start shopping for your autumn/winter (A/W) wardrobe and pop into Bilstore in Tünel for unique pieces. Don’t spend all your money in Tünel because H&M is finally opening its first store in Istanbul soon. You may also go to the book fair and buy new books to read when you are at home during rainy autumn days. If you like second-hand items or believe that “every dress has a history,” I think you will enjoy reading the fashion section that I wrote with several fashion bloggers’ contributions.
Whatever you do, I hope you keep an umbrella with you at all times and enjoy the rainy autumn days.
If you have any suggestions or anything to add or share, don’t be shy; contact me at ozgealtinok@gmail.com
Have a nice day,
Özge Altınok Lokmanhekim

EVERY DRESS HAS A STORY
A couple of weeks ago I participated in a fashion seminar where people discussed vintage and second-hand clothes. After the sessions, all I was thinking was that vintage or second hand, these clothes were worn by different people at different times. I told myself that I don’t like the idea of wearing somebody else’s clothes, but then I remembered that I am still keeping my mum’s engagement dress hoping that it will fit one day. So, that made me realize that whether new, second hand or vintage every dress has a history. I shared my thoughts with my fashion blogger friends on a Sunday afternoon in Galata. Then they shared their dresses or accesories and their history with me. The photos are taken by Tanla Silay. I hope you enjoy reading this article.
Alışveriş Cini

Alışveriş Cini, a fashion blogger who was awarded the “Best Fahion Blog Award” in 2010, writes about fashion and gives shopping and styling tips to her followers on her blog www.alisveris-cini.com. She came to Galata with a nice black and cream scarf. She purchased this scarf from Forever 21 in 2006 when she went to Hollywood with a word and travel program. After finishing their commitment to work during this program, Alışveriş Cini and her friends went to San Fransisco, and on their last day, while on the way to the bus station, she realized that she had forgotten the scarf at the hotel. Although her friends told her that she had to leave the scarf otherwise she would miss the plane, she did not listen to them and instead went back to the hotel. The funny part of the story is that she had to find the station to take the bus, but she did not have any idea where it was. However, she finally made it and caught the bus. She laughs while telling this story because her friends told her afterwards that they had a difficult time finding the station and thought that she would never make it. Since she worked hard to retrieve that scarf, it is one of the valuable assets in her wardorobe.
Koray Caner

Koray Caner shares his thoughts on fashion and lifestyle on his blog www.koraycaner.com. I am a bit jeaulous of him because he is the owner of second copy of Vogue Turkey’sfirst issue and shares his story on how he purchased the No: 2 on his blog. If you think that the first one, as a tradition, was bought by the editor of the magazine, you cannot blame me. When we met on Sunday, we all thought that he was wearing somebody else’s clothes and that that someone was at least 10 years younger than him. But when he told us about the story of his clothes we all understood that they all belong to him. He just wanted to spend a day with his childhood. His yellow T-shirt had the number “41” on it. Forty-one is the city code of Kocaeli, where Caner spent most of his childhood. He was wearing jean shorts from the 90s, specially tailored by his grandmother. He also wore a jean jacket, a fashion item of the 90s. He was wearing three pieces of his childhood.
Styleboom

Styleboom is an academican at a university, but fashion is her first and most loved hobby. She shares fashion news, her style and photos as well as activities that she participates in on her blog www.style-boom.blogspot.com. She is a real fashionista, and all her friends know that she has a feminine style that includes flower dresses and high heels. But her husband did not have a clue. He was showing Styleboom clothes and shoes that she never would wear thinking that these clothes were her style. When Styleboom lost her belief in her husband and accepted the fact that her husband would never buy the right dress or shoes for her, a miracle happened. While shopping Styleboom saw a pink dress she wore at a photoshoot and told her best friend she wanted to buy it. At the same time, her husband saw the same dress on a billboard and sent a text message to Styleboom’s best friend asking for help to find that dress. That dress was a gift to Styleboom from her husband. And after that day, Styleboom’s husband always bought her dresses and shoes that matched her style. After the pink dress, they lived happily ever after.
Ozan Alçın

Ozan Alçın, a 16-year-old blogger, shares his thoughts about men’s fashion on his blog www.ozanalcin.com. He wore a blue hat and told us that he loves hats but that he could not find one that fit his head. However, one day he found this blue hat, and he still believes that this is the first and last hat that will fit him. He also told us that this hat is special because it was worn by so many people and so many people asked Alçın for this hat.
Bilun Şen

Bilun Şen, a jewelery designer who recently opened her first store in Galata, shares her creative work at her blog bilundesign.blogspot.com. Bilun came to Galata with a pink top. She told us that five years ago, she was at her friend’s house watching a movie in her pijamas. Suddenly, plans changed, and they went out to meet a friend, who is now Bilun’s fiancé. Her friend made her wear that pink top since she was planning to set up the couple. The couple, who has a photo from that day, have been together for more than five years and are planning to get married soon. The only thing that Şen complains about is that she can no longer fit into that pink top J
Can Direkli

Can Direkli, who went to Bayramiç, Çanakkale, last year when he was not accepted into a university and started to blog there since he did not have any friends and was bored, first started to write about his days in this little village but then found himself writing about women’s fashion at www.kankanerdeyimben.blogspot.com. He wore a nice jean shirt for the photoshoot. He told us that the jean shirt belonged to his uncle. His aunt, who passed away due to cancer, used to say that his uncle looked quite handsome in that shirt. His uncle remarried four years later, and his new wife decided to throw away everything that made her husband remember his old wife, including this jean shirt. Direkli grabbed the shirt before it went into the garbage. He loves this jean shirt because he loves his aunt, and every time he wears it, it makes him remember her. With red glasses, I think the jean shirt fits him perfectly.
Cindrella Under the Umbrella

She writes with the motto “Fashion is passion or poison” on her blog http://cindrellaundertheumbrella.blogspot.com.
She came to Galata with a handmade cardigan knitted by her grandmother given as a gift to Cindrella’s mother when her parents got married. After many years, her mother gave this cardigan to Cindrella. She told us that she still thinks about when her grandmother wore this cardigan. She also wonders whether her grandmother designed the cardigan or found the design in a magazine. Cindrella said that since she knows that no one else has this cardigan, she feels that it is special. She is planning to give the cadigan to her children when the time comes. We all wonder how many generations will wear the cardigan.

THE GOOD HEART

After Noi the Albino and Dark Horse, Dagur Kári, the Icelandic director, presents his latest film, The Good Heart. The cast includes Brian Cox, Paul Dano, Stephanie Szostak, Isild Le Besco and Nicolas Bro. The film tells the story of a bartender and a young homeless man that the bartender takes under his wing. The Good Heart is now in theaters.
The Story:
“Brian Cox stars as Jacques, the curmudgeonly owner of a gritty New York dive bar that serves as home to a motley assortment of professional drinkers. Jacques is determinedly drinking and smoking himself to death when he meets Lucas (Paul Dano), a homeless young man who has already given up on life. Determined to keep his legacy alive, Jacques deems Lucas is a fitting heir and takes him under his wing, schooling him in the male-centric laws of his alcoholic clubhouse: no new customers, no fraternizing with customers, and absolutely no women. Lucas is a quick study, but their friendship is put to the test when the distraught and beautiful April (Isild Le Besco) shows up at the bar seeking shelter, and Lucas insists they help her out.” (The Good Heart’s official page)
WHERE TO EAT IN THE CITY
BEEVES BUTCHER & STEAKHOUSE

We went to Beeves and Butcher & Steakhouse, a new restaurant that recently opened in Şaşkınbakkal. Sidar Budak, the owner, has a special farm where he raises and feeds cattle. Therefore, he states that he serves the best meat, and after having a nice meal, I have to admit he is telling the truth. Budak told me that Beeves uses the process of dry aging and has special cooling cabinets for dry aging, which takes 28 days. The restaurant uses Argentinean cooking styles, and the chef, Koray Karahan, is an expert in cooking and grilling meat, and all meat is cooked on a coal grill. The restaurant also has a butcher shop where you may choose your meat and where you can also buy some to bring home. The experts give you information on how to cook and grill meat. The restaurant also serves a wide range of wine. For people who love red meat, I suggest you try Beeves!
